The government’s Environment Bill had its second reading in Parliament yesterday and is now well on the way to putting into law protections to make our environmental standards the highest they have ever been and make the UK a world leader in environmental protection.
The transformative Environment Bill will help ensure that we maintain and improve our environmental protections as we leave the EU. It will build on the UK’s strong track record and sets out a comprehensive and world-leading vision to allow future generations to prosper. Environmental principles will be enshrined in law and measures will be introduced to improve air and water quality, tackle plastic pollution and restore habitats so plants and wildlife can thrive.
I have been fighting for my city to tackle air quality for years, most recently bringing all parties together to look at particulate capture mitigation for our most polluted roads. Only the Conservatives are really determined to take real action - with our Labour City administration being far behind their legal requirements.
Tackling pollution, plastic recycling and preserving natural habitats is just part of changing our habits to ensure we leave our environment in a better state for our children than how we found it.
